The Emergency assistance Program at Chatham County Department of Family
and Children Services distributes $20,188.00 per month to individuals
and families experiencing emergency situations in their lives. There
are five basic categories for eligibility. They are as follows:
- Disabilities that disallow individuals from working or seeking
work.
- Families that have applied for TANF and been seen by the TANF
intake workers.
- Individuals or families that have been served a Dispossesary
(eviction) notice by the magistrate court.
- A family who has not received their TANF grant due to theft or
problems in mailing.
- Referrals of extraordinary situations from child protective
service workers.
Emergency Assistance is for Chatham County residents only. The income
ceiling for individuals is $133, for families it is $202. The only
exception is for evictions where the income ceiling is as follows:
- One person - $235
- Two persons - $356
- Three persons - $424
- Four persons - $500
- Five persons - $573
- Six persons - $621
- Seven persons - $672
- Eight persons - $713

Individual grants are $133 and Family Grants are $202 regardless of
household size.
Generally, appointments for emergency assistance are made the last
working day in the month for the following month. If you have any
